Schneider Electric Announces Winners of the 2024 Sustainability Impact Awards in Portugal and Spain
Schneider Electric, a global leader in the digital transformation of energy management and automation, has announced the winners of the 2024 Sustainability Impact Awards in Portugal and Spain. This initiative recognises partners, customers, and suppliers who demonstrate exceptional commitment to sustainability through innovative solutions that contribute to a greener future. With over 450 submissions received globally for the latest edition, the awards have once again surpassed expectations.
Launched in 2022, the Schneider Electric Sustainability Impact Awards were created to highlight the critical role played by companies dedicated to building a more sustainable and resilient world. Entrants are evaluated on their energy solutions, digitalisation, and automation efforts aimed at reducing energy consumption and improving operational efficiency.
Recognitions in Portugal and Spain
In Portugal, Zembe was recognised for its commitment to sustainability and its long-term focus on investing in the well-being of its employees and communities. The company provides sustainability training for its workforce and has established protocols with educational institutions to promote best practices and learning opportunities. Key achievements include the installation of renewable energy systems, transitioning to a more sustainable vehicle fleet, and developing solutions to help customers measure the environmental impact of their purchases.
CEN Solutions was acknowledged for its facilities at the MegaPark Business Park in Dos Hermanas (Seville), one of Spain’s largest industrial sites dedicated to electrical equipment production. The facility was designed with strict sustainability criteria, including an 850 kWp self-consumption photovoltaic plant and a 2,500 kWh energy storage system. This was made possible through a microgrid and Schneider Electric EV chargers, which play a crucial role in optimising energy control and management.
CULMIA received an award for its 222-home project in Badalona (Barcelona), which was developed with a comprehensive approach to sustainability. The project features a continuous façade with SATE insulation for high thermal efficiency and high-performance aluminium joinery designed to reduce heat loss. By fully electrifying energy demand through a centralised heat pump system, it achieved an A energy certification. Moreover, CULMIA implemented a smart control system using Schneider Electric’s KNX technology and its EcoXpert partner ADR Ingeniería, allowing real-time monitoring of water, climate, and electricity usage in each home. The project was awarded a “Very Good” BREEAM rating, setting a new benchmark for digitalisation and decarbonisation in the construction sector.
Iberdrola was recognised for its Advanced Smart Assistant, a platform enabling customers to monitor and optimise their energy consumption via the Iberdrola Clients app. This AI-powered solution interconnects devices such as EVs and manages them automatically, shifting usage to off-peak hours. This allows users to save an average of 30% on energy bills and reduce their carbon footprint by 600kg annually. The platform’s innovative approach to energy transition positions it as a transformative tool in the market.
Inmotechnia stood out for its project aimed at improving energy control and management in student housing. Using Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure Building Operation (EBO), the company successfully monitored and optimised the facilities’ energy consumption, maximising efficiency and savings. As an EcoXpert partner of Schneider Electric, Inmotechnia supports the sustainability and digitalisation goals of a growing market segment.
OÖD Architects received an award for the Villa Ayantam project in Marbella, designed in collaboration with Peláez Ingeniería. The project combines bioclimatic architecture with advanced technology, integrating KNX systems and the EcoStruxure Building Operation platform from Schneider Electric. This holistic approach enhanced energy efficiency and comfort, earning the highest BREEAM rating ever awarded to a residential building in Spain, thanks to its sustainable design and innovative execution.
Roca Group was honoured for its leadership in sustainability and its firm commitment to decarbonisation. Notably, it implemented the world’s first electric kiln for ceramic sanitary ware production, cutting its CO₂ emissions by 50% since 2018. The group has also adopted digital tools, including various AVEVA software solutions to monitor and optimise factory performance, and Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure Power Monitoring Expert (PME) to track energy use. Roca’s alignment with SBTi targets further reinforces its leadership in industrial decarbonisation.
“Supporting and collaborating with our ecosystem of partners and customers is vital to achieving our sustainability goals,” said Jesús Requena, Vice President of Marketing & Strategy at Schneider Electric Iberia. “The Sustainability Impact Awards aim to recognise and highlight the efforts of companies that work daily to decarbonise their operations and those of their clients. We are proud to count on them and congratulate them for their unwavering commitment to making a positive impact.”
